Where we make our clothes and impact
Where we make our clothes and impact
Delhi, India
All of our clothes are made near Delhi in India. We work with 3 factories and 2 fabric mills.
Education
In India the enrollment rate at school is relatively high, north of 90%, but the attendance rate is a lot lower - in some communities under 50%. This is due to a range of factors, children moving around with their parents who are looking for work, being expected to stay home to look after older relatives and to manage the house. And in some cases children going to work.
No Child Left Behind
Despite this the policy is for no 'child to be left behind' meaning that children won't be held back a year - even if they can't keep up with their classmates or do the work put in front of them. This results in many more children not attending school.
This creates a situation where children leave school without being able to read or write and stuck for life in lower paying jobs.
The literacy rate in India is around 73% - this is compared to 99% in the UK
Your Support and Impact
Your Support and Impact
How it helps
Every time your order you make a donation to an amazing organisation called Pratham in India to support children near our factories and across clothing production areas of India. A new dress for you can fund a child to learn how to read and write for 2 months through Prathams amazing work.
Pratham
Pratham have been helping children in India for over 30 years. They've created in-depth learning resources and learning techniques that have won education awards for their ability to help children learn at the right level.
How the funds are used
Funding an Education Centre
Funding an Education Centre
Based just outside Delhi the centre supports nearly 200 children who have fallen outside of education due to not being able to learn to read and write.
Taught at their level - not age
At the centre children are taught at their level and not their age. This ensures the children are actually learning. The Pratham teachers work with small groups to ensure they learn the basics quickly to get the most from education.
The Teachers
All of the teachers at the centre are local women who often haven't had a job previously. This ensures a strong local connection.
National Education Programs

Early Intervention
The rest of the funds provided to Pratham are used to fund education programs run in schools across India.
Within Schools
The programs help children who can't read or write learn at the right level within schools and continue their studies. This is vital work and a short intervention for a couple of months can ensure a child stays in education for years to come and reach their full potential.

How this is done
How this is done
We now pay nearly 400 garment workers across our factories extra wages from the money savd by removing the waste from the process. This is paid to all workers and not just the workers working on Unfolded styles.
why?
This is done to ensure no conflict within the factory and fairness between workers.
How much extra?
The amount extra can be anywhere between 10 and 30% on top of their government agreed wage level depending on the time of year.

Frequently asked questions
When you order you'll see the time it takes to make each item on the product page when you select your size. We aim to deliver most items within 6-8 weeks but this is dependent on some factors that are out of our control - such as customs our of India and into the UK.
Of course but we don't offer free returns, it's just not possible as a small company. You can though swap an item for free through our swap platform. Returns must happen within 14 days of delivery and be sent to our UK returns address.
Our prices are cheaper than other brands because we don't make the same waste - which saves a lot of money, which we then pass on to you and use to do good in the world at the same time!
We create positive impact through 2 ways with the money saved by removing the waste from the process. The first is through paying garment workers higher wages and the second is through funding education courses near our factories with our amazing partners Pratham.
Our factories are near Delhi in India, mostly to the east of the city. We run regular checks on them and also visit every partner personally.
We offer sizes 6-24 and in most styles offer multiple lengths as well. We're working to extend this further.
Once you buy from Unfolded you'll then be able to help us design future collections either through our emails or by joining the Unfolded Facebook Creator Group!
