Does buying my clothes from Unfolded really make a positive impact in the world?
Yes - it creates a bigger impact than buying clothes from anywhere else. By removing the waste from production we're able to invest more into the communities where our clothes are made. Okay - it means you have to wait longer for delivery but we promise the wait is worth it.
How can I trust that you do what you say here?
We produce regular reports on the impact we create and share stories from our factories and the children we help support. Many of the pictures on this page were taken by our team whilst visiting projects we help support.
Who is actually behind Unfolded? Convince me this isn't just a dodgy website?
Unfolded is based in Edinburgh, Scotland and was founded by Cally Russell, Jamie Sutherland and Hilde Frydnes. Before founding Unfolded they ran Mallzee a data insights business for big brands and retailers. You might recognise them from appearing on Dragons Den or from shows like Lorraine, This Morning or many many magazine and newspaper appearances.
Why should I care about waste in the fashion industry?
Cause 30% of new clothes made every year won't be sold - this year that will be 26 billion items of clothing. 26 BILLION - with a B!
Making these clothes will create 2% of the worlds greenhouse gas emissions.
We decided this couldn't go on and created Unfolded to make clothes in a way that's better for the planet, your pocket and the people who make our clothes.
Shouldn't you just make clothes in the UK and help people here?
Sadly making clothes in the UK would mean we would need to increase our prices by 50-75% and we feel this would exclude many from buying in a more sustainable way. The environmental impact wouldn't be a huge different either as the UK doesn't produce the raw materials for fabrics so they would still need to be imported.
We choose to produce in India due to the quality of the products we can make there and the positive impact we can make in the communities where we operate there.
If I order from you and I don't like it can I return it still?
Of course you can - even though we make our clothes after you order you can still return them within 14 days.
We also offer a free peer to peer swapping platform if you're just looking for another size or have your eye on something else.
How do you track the impact you create?
We partner with an amazing charity called Pratham to run our impact work. They provide regular updates and audits and we visit the programmes we support when ever we can.
We work closely with our factories and audit them on a regular basis as well.
I still have more questions - who can I get in touch with?
We LOVE questions - just email us on support@thisisunfolded.com or slide into our DMs on your social platform of choice! The wonderful Amy, Clare or Bara from our support team will be happy to help!
Explore the positive impact shopping with Unfolded creates in more depth
We focus our positive impact in the world on the workers who make our clothes, their communities and some of the poorest areas of India.
Why do we do this?
In India the literacy rate is estimatd to be around 75% - in the UK it's 99%. The quickest way to impact long term poverty is to ensure kids are able to read and write at an early age. This ensures their attendance in school till a later age and opens up better employment opportunities.
Partner With The Best
We partner with the amazing charity Pratham for our impact work. Pratham is one of the most respected educational charities in the world after being founded in India in the late 1980s. We believe in supporting amazing organizations instead of trying to create direct impact ourselves.
Community Impact
Through Pratham we help to fund a school in the region where our factories are located. This school supports children who have dropped out of mainstream education after falling behind. It focuses on helping them learn at the right level to enable them to continue their education.
Additional Support
Alongside this some of the money saved by removing the waste from the process is used to fund intervention programmes in schools in some of Indias poorest regions to ensure children don't drop out of school due to not being able to keep up.

The Real Impact Your Clothes Can Make
Meet Tania, 9, one of the children supported by Unfolded shoppers just like you!
Unable to Read and Write
Tania was one of the 26% of the population who wasn't able to read and write - compared to 1% in the UK.
Tania lives near Delhi. Her father is a traditional construction worker (a Beldar) and her mother cuts threads in a nearby factory.
Education Programe
Since joining the Pratham programme, funded by Unfolded, Tania has learnt to read. A huge achievement and one that has changed her world outlook.
Dreaming of a Better Future
Tania now says her dream is to become a police officer and to protect the nation.
With this change in outlook she also now wants to take care of her parents as they grow old.
Why does this impact need to happen?
Despite enrollment in school being high in India non attendance is a huge issue and with no system for holding kids back children drop out of the education system as they fall behind their peers. With Pratham these children are supported and are taught at their level to enable them to further their education.
