When people think of sustainable fashion, the common perception is that it comes with a hefty price tag. However, the notion that sustainable fashion is unaffordable is a misconception.
Why?
Cause it’s possible to wear sustainable fashion and make conscious decisions without having to break the bank in multiple different ways. ✨
The Unfolded Way
Our approach focuses on removing the waste that traditional brands produce and using the money saved from this to offer great quality at affordable prices. Around 30% of clothes made by normal brands are never sold, so there is plenty of savings to be made by removing this from the process.
We do this by designing every item in collaboration with our customers and then only producing them as people are ordering. This approach allows us to match supply with demand and remove the waste.
It does mean that it takes a little bit longer to get your clothes, but the quality and savings mean they’re worth the wait.
Instead of falling prey to fast fashion's constant cycle of trends and impulse buys, adopting a mindful approach to shopping can save money and support sustainability. By considering the true value and long-term cost of each garment, consumers can make wiser choices that prioritise quality over quantity.
Second-Hand and Vintage Shopping
An affordable way to embrace sustainable fashion is by exploring second-hand and vintage stores. Thrift shopping not only offers unique and one-of-a-kind pieces, but also reduces clothing waste by giving pre-loved items a new life. It's an eco-conscious and budget-friendly alternative to buying brand new garments.
This approach might not be for everyone though as it is more time consuming.
Renting and Swapping
For special occasions or infrequently worn items, renting clothes can be a cost-effective and sustainable option. Many rental platforms offer a variety of outfits at a fraction of the retail price. Additionally, clothing swap events within communities can be an excellent way to refresh one's wardrobe without spending a penny.
Capsule Wardrobe
Building a capsule wardrobe with versatile and timeless pieces can save money in the long run but does take upfront investment and as such it isn’t an option available to everyone.
A carefully curated selection of essential items can be mixed and matched to create various outfits, reducing the need for frequent purchases. Investing in durable, high-quality basics ensures that the wardrobe remains sustainable and cost-effective over time.
DIY and Upcycling
For the creative and crafty among us, DIY projects and upcycling offer a budget-friendly way to transform old or thrifted garments into unique, personalized pieces. Upcycling not only minimises waste but also allows for creative expression and a sense of accomplishment.
Sustainable fashion can undoubtedly be affordable and accessible to all with the right approach and mindset.
By adopting a conscious consumer lifestyle and making mindful choices, individuals can embrace eco-friendly fashion without straining their budgets. Second-hand shopping, clothing rentals, and DIY projects offer budget-friendly alternatives, while the growing number of affordable sustainable brands makes conscious choices easier than ever before.
Remember, affordability in sustainable fashion lies in embracing a balanced perspective that values quality, longevity, and ethical practices over temporary trends and excessive consumption. By making small, but consistent changes in our fashion choices, we can collectively contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive fashion industry.
Together, we can break the myth of in-affordability and build a more conscious and responsible fashion future. 🌎
