30% of new clothes made are never sold.
The price you pay for clothes with traditional brands has to build in a margin to cover the cost of making clothing that is made but then never sold, as well as sky-high return rates.
The typical high street brand charges a 5-6x markup on everything you buy to cover this.
This means a £50 dress will have cost them around £10 to make - including factory worker wages and the material used.
The rest of the cost covers making the clothes that are never sold, the cost of returns - plus their profit levels!
